I'M BACK

I have really gotten back into reading again. So much so that I have been looking for ideas for books. I have received some ideas from friends and come to find out, all are checked out from the library already. All that does is make a long list of  "on hold" for me. I will eventually get them.

The need to catch up with all the books I have read and listened to is hanging on my mind. I will get it done soon. I have listened to all of James Patterson's books on the Womens Murder Club up to the 7th one and am listening to the 8th one. They helped me along my trip from MN to AZ.

Have a good one will update soon.

Thanks to all for following. I am sorry that I have not been posting anything lately but my excuse it this.... My family and I are moving to Arizona in a couple of months. I am very excited but have also been busy, looking for a rental, jobs and such.  I will be back on track soon, after we move if not before.
We have been reducing a lot of possessions that are not needed. That means we had a garage sale last week and will have another this weekend. I forgot how much it takes to set up a sale with all the pricing and arranging.  WOW  But it will be worth it.

Lock and Key

Author Sarah Dessen

I really enjoyed the characters in the book.  I felt as if you really got to know each of them and could relate to what they were going through. There are a few parts that make you want to laugh out loud and many parts that make you cry. Mostly you cry from the very happy parts.

It is almost fairy tale like-a young girl with no family that cares, no where to live, mother abandons her and she is starting to do drugs. All of a sudden she is in her sisters home, good school, food, clothing and people who love her.
What a difference a day can make. The story takes you through all the feelings and misgiving that she has as she adapts to her new life.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

Author: Jamie Ford

I really enjoyed this book. It seemed very real to me.  It is hard to imagine how people were treated back in the 40's. I couldn't imagine treating someone different because of their race.  Think how boring it would be if we didn't have different cultures.  Even living anywhere during the war had to be difficult.
I really like the part about the kids and how much they enjoyed the music. It was interesting what they had to do to get into the club, and then after that it was all destroyed anyway.
There were a lot of parts that brought tears to my eyes.

No Regrets

Author: Ann Rule

This book has a lot of different true crimes stories in it.
The first one is longer than the rest and tells of how some people can be very possesive and controlling without other people realizing it. Sometimes you can sort of understand why people do thing if it is for love or their safety. I feel when people have hit a certain age they would have more sense than to kill others for money or to lie to control people. Maybe it is because they are older and feel that people owe them for whatever reason. Who knows, no answer seems like it should be correct or acceptable.
The other stories were good also, but some where just too short for my liking.  I wanted to know more of what happened.
After all is said, I still love her books.

Will to Murder

This is the history on the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, MN and the murders that took place in the mansion in 1977.
When I started this book, I did not want to put it down.
It is hard to believe that money is so important to some people that they would go to any measure to get it. Even though Marjorie had money or should we say should have had money, she blew it. Wasting it away and wanting more all the time. She threw more money away that most of us will ever be able to dream about. The excess in which she bought outfits for kids for skating or horseback riding, just so no other people in the area could possibly have the same outfit - is crazy. Wow.
It was a shame that the police made as many mistakes as they did, but it was not something that they dealt with all the time. You almost have to feel something for them because of everything that they dealt with. All the craziness was more that what they were used to and they did the best they knew how. I remember when this took place I was barely a teenager. I wish now that I would have paid more attention to what happened back then.
Oh well, I would suggest to everyone interested in true stories.

The Heretic's Daughter

Synopsis:
Martha Carrier was one of the first women to be accused, tried and hanged as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts. Like her mother, young Sarah Carrier is bright
and willful, openly challenging the small, brutal world in which they live. Often at odds with one another, mother and daughter are forced to stand together against the escalating hysteria of the trials and the superstitious tyranny that led to the torture and imprisonment of more than 200 people accused of witchcraft. This is the story of Martha's courageous defiance and ultimate death, as told by the daughter who survived.Kathleen Kent is a tenth generation descendent of Martha Carrier. She paints a haunting portrait, not just of Puritan New England, but also of one family's deep and abiding love in the face of fear and persecution.
My Thoughts
This book is about the Salem witch trials and the sacrifices of the families that dealt with them. It is hard to understand how people can treat their children the way they do. The hunger that they felt is astonishing to me.

I find it amazing that they would condemn people and hang them only on hearsay of a couple people, even children. It seems so foolish and thank God it didn't continue through the years.

I enjoyed this book but there is still a lot of heartache which I have read about in a couple other books recently. The books I am referring to are A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and The Glass Castle

I think it is time to change it up and read a book or two that are not about children that are suffering so much.
